Nightsongs - Sound installation
For more than 100 years, the steel industry has been part of the landscape of the town of Esch-sur-Alzette and of the Luxembourg and Lorraine mining basin.
The Nightsongs project takes this nocturnal soundscape as the starting point for a series of electronic compositions exploring the facets of the night, their poetic dimension and their link to steel history. Using field-recording, the sound footprint of industrial sites in operation (ArcelorMittal, Belval) and shut down (Metzeschmelz & FerroForum, Esch-Schifflange) was recorded and edited to constitute a sound library serving as a basis for the musical pieces of the project.
The sound installation immerses the visitor in an immersive experience of sound extracts thanks to MadTrix's "Trinity" ambisonic multichannel system and thus puts conscious listening at the center of its approach. Like a sound machine traveling through time, the installation takes the listener through different temporalities and soundscapes while inviting them to inhabit the landscapes that resonate around them.
