Biergerlech Wunnkultur zu Esch

Bourgeois living culture in Esch

Conference

Starting from the newly built residence of the Buchholtz family, the lecture deals with the development of bourgeois living culture in Esch-sur-Alzette, from the turn of the century to the 1930s. On the one hand, the iron and steel industry promoted the settlement of workers, employees of industrial companies and businesspeople. On the other hand, the economic upswing exerted a strong attraction on all types of liberal professions. This is how new residential areas with architecturally interesting townhouses and villas were created, which reveal a lot about their clients.

With: Antoinette Lorang, art historian.

The conference will be held in Luxembourgish.
