MOMENTS with Luxembourgish women composers
Luxembourgish women composers of the past and present in dialogue
Le Salon de Helen Buchholtz is the perfect place for women composers of past and present to meet. The hostess of the Salon, Helen Buchholtz (1877-1953) was one of the first women in Luxembourg to devote her life exclusively to musical creation.
Noemi Deitz has just published the biography of the composer Helen Buchholtz – Komponieren zwischen zwei Welten in the Europäische Komponistinnen series published by Böhlau, the same house that published in 2020 Lou Koster – Komponieren in Luxemburg by Danielle Roster. Who could speak better on behalf of these two emblematic figures of Luxembourg music of the first half of the 20th century during a panel discussion in dialogue with the contemporary composers in residence at Le Salon de Helen Buchholtz, Tatsiana Zelianko and Nigji Sanges? Under the moderation of radio100,7, they will explore the challenges, opportunities and innovations that have marked the journey of women in the field of music composition. Through a dynamic dialogue between the past and the present, this discussion will highlight the remarkable achievements of women composers past and present, while examining the prospects for the future of music composition.
The team of the research project MuGi.lu (Music and Gender in Luxembourg) will present two new Internet portals dedicated to the biographies and works of the composers Nigji Sanges (*1984) and Tatsiana Zelianko (*1980).
The day will end with the new recital Träume, curated and performed by German soprano Gerlinde Sämann and pianist Claude Weber, which will include compositions by these Luxembourgish composers among other dreamlike works.

Le Salon de Helen Buchholtz brings back the spirit of the ‘Salon’ of the early 20th century through a reinterpreted and local teatime. Every weekend during the MOMENTS, we invite you to spend some time of relaxation, pleasure and encounters at the Bridderhaus over a fine tea accompanied by small nibbles and delicious sweets.
For each MOMENT, between 2pm and 5pm, a Luxembourg personality will revisit the recipes of the time, offering you a teatime where tradition and modernity come together. Come and rediscover classic and local recipes from the time of Ketty Thull.
Mamie et Moi aims "to promote intergenerational connections in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to strengthen solidarity between generations and optimize living together in a context of cultural and generational diversity." Grandmothers from different backgrounds are invited to revisit a few iconic recipes from the time of Ketty Thull for the occasion and to enjoy a convivial moment of sharing knowledge and skills around a knitting activity at the Bridderhaus.
The exhibition Esch-Uelzecht : les années 50 et 60 accompanying Le Salon de Helen Buchholtz is open to the public between 2pm and 5pm.
