Vincen Beeckman & Clémentine Davin
The residency project of Vincen Beeckman and Clémentine Davin follows a resolutely open, collective, and participatory approach. While the final form remains deliberately undetermined, it is not left to chance but stems from a methodological choice: to allow the process to be built through encounters with the residents of the Grenz neighborhood, connecting the Konschthal Esch with the ArcelorMittal site. Between these two poles lie various places of passage, meeting, and sociability. These anchor points make the territory a rich, dynamic, and stimulating space, constantly evolving and carrying the personal stories and intimate narratives of those who inhabit and bring it to life. The project seeks to reflect not only the cultural and intergenerational diversity of this neighborhood but also the social and symbolic dynamics that shape the identity of the city of Esch-sur-Alzette.
Vincen Beeckman (born in 1973 in Schaerbeek, lives and works in Brussels) is a Belgian photographer whose practice is rooted in encounter and collaboration. His often long-term projects are built together with people living on the margins of society or within communities brought together around a shared interest or territory. Rejecting a distant stance, he favors a participatory, intergenerational, and multicultural approach, where photography becomes both a tool for social connection and an artistic gesture.
Clémentine Davin (born in 1985 in Lyon, lives and works in Brussels) is a Franco-Swiss art historian, author, and contemporary art researcher. She assists figures from the art world and collaborates with associations, companies, and institutions in Belgium and France through research, writing, and critical reflection assignments. She regularly publishes articles, interviews, and exhibition reviews in Belgian art journals l’art même and Flux News. Since 2022, she has closely followed the work of Vincen Beeckman, with whom she engages in dialogue about his projects and their stakes.
