Ghislain Roussel and Julien Ribeiro
During their residency, Ghislain and Julien continue their research and writing around No Space Can Contain Your Scream, an exhibition they are co-curating for FRAC Franche-Comté (May 2027). The project explores the scream as both an intimate and political gesture, considering it through three poles: those who scream, the channels through which the scream circulates, and those who hear it. At the heart of the reflection is a question: what is a scream made intelligible, and what is lost—or at stake—in this translation?
Stéphane Ghislain Roussel
Belgian-Luxembourgish violinist and musicologist by training, Stéphane Ghislain Roussel is a director, dramaturg, and independent curator. After collaborating with various French national cultural institutions (Musée de la musique in Paris, Centre Pompidou, Musée du Louvre, Capitole de Toulouse), he was an artist at the Académie du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in 2018.
His stage productions, which explore the connections between music, visual arts, and the body, have been presented at numerous venues across Europe (Monocle, Golden Shower, Le Cri du lustre, Drawing on Steve Reich, Snowball, Luonnollisesti, Teatro di Verzura, Barbablù (I & II. Paura e dopo)…). Particularly active in the field of opera, in 2022 he directed the diptych Zu unseren Schwestern, zu unseren Brüdern (the world premiere of Eugène Birman’s work and Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis) at the European Parliament’s Hemicycle and at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg. The production was revived in 2026 at the United Nations Palais des Nations and at the Comédie de Genève.
Founder and artistic director of PROJETEN (Luxembourg), he is also the author of numerous texts and a recipient of several writing grants (Fonds culturel national du Luxembourg, SCAM-SACD, Academia Belgica). A regular lecturer and teacher (he taught for ten years at the University of Duisburg-Essen), he developed the interdisciplinary programme of the École Supérieure d’Art de Lorraine from 2021 to 2024, was responsible for the Mudam Akademie in 2024–2025, and is a Visiting Professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Urbino in 2026.
He curated the exhibition Opéra Monde, la quête d’un art total at Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2019–2020. In 2027, he will co-curate an exhibition on The Scream at FRAC Franche-Comté.
His current research focuses on the expansion of the idea of the Gesamtkunstwerk through utopias, sensorial relationships with ecosystems, and queer worlds, with writing remaining the poetic and political catalyst of his practice.
